PARSLEY
How can you cultivate parsley plants ?
Parsley is an aromatic plant which is biennial. It continues to grow during 2 years. Therefore, it takes 2 years to have seeds from the plant.
You have 2 ways to cultivate parsley
- You can plant it directly in the soil in March
- You can also plant it in a little jar in January
It is really simple to cultivate it. To have parsley during all the year, follow the instruction :
On January, plant the parsley in a jar (about 8 cm of diameter) and water it regularly to humidify the soil. Eventually, be careful at the frost and to avoid it, insolate the vegetable.
The main diseases are the red-brown and mildew but if your parsley is diseased you should cut it and plant other plant because it’s more profitable. ; )

It is Christmas' time. Do you have any particular recipe ?
This is a typical French meal from the north.
Cheap but sophisticated !
The slipper of Maroilles with leeks
Ingredients
250g of leaf of brick
120g of Maroilles
100g of better
5 leeks
4 teaspoons of cumin
Pepper and salt
Preparation
Cut the roots of leeks and take off the first level of leaf.
Cut also the green leaf.
Cut finely the leeks and wash it.
After that you allow to simmer gently with 30g of better during 20 minutes.
During this time, in a bowl, dissolve the rest of better.
Take off the rind of maroilles and cut little pieces.
Preheat the oven (180°C)
When the leeks are meltings, take a leaf of brick and spread butter on it.
Then put one spoon of leeks in the left corner of the leaf and one piece of maroilles.
Now you can close the leaf as if it was a triangle.
When all your preparation is ready put it in the oven during 10 and 15 min. It has to be crispy.
MMMMmmmmmmmmhhhh
How do you cultivate leeks ?
There are different varieties of leeks. It depends on size, date of collect, temperature…
Generally, you plant it during spring and summer. You can collect it during winter.
You need to space the different young plant about 10 cm. The plants have to be watered often.
After 3 weeks, the plant can earth up.
What kind of problem can you meet ?
A war with worms can occur…. But no problem, you just have to put 2 or 3 peppercorns in the hole wherein you planted your leeks.
If your leeks are suffering from the rust, don’t worry. Use the “mancozèbe” which is an organic fungicide.
The Maroille in the north culture
The Maroille was created in the 7th century AD in Avesnois. People who come from the north are very attached to this cheese. The latter smells enormously. People are really proud of their cheese and proclaim it : maroille from the north is like beer for Germans.
North without Maroille is nothing. Indeed, with the movie “bienvenue chez les Ch’tis”, you can appreciate a man eating Maroille on a slice of bread soaked in a cup of coffee. Is it a stereotype ? Maybe...
